Is impressive the cultural richness of this city.

The origin of medieval city and consequently of defence, is concretized in the weak remainders of what outside the large walled enclosure which surrounded the city, builds after its conquest by Alfonso VIII and adapted perfectly to the irregularities of the ground and the capricious orography of the way of the Jerte river. The remainders which are currently preserved enable us to carry out a rather approximate composition their principal characteristics: carried out by sillares of the irregularities and masonry, it was flanked with many sometimes plain towers semi cylindrical with an external wall or barbican. Along this one, one laid out various doors which allow the communication of the city with outside.

Of the eight doors which freed the access to the city, they remain four: the door of Trujillo, that of Coria, that of the Sun, that of Berrozanas, in addition to the Shutter of Holy María. Most monumental is the Door of the Sun, works Renaissance, formed by an arc of a half - not with radial voussoirs. Complete the composition a central house with a hornacina with the Virgin of Paz. The shield of the Kings of the Catholics and those from Plasencia. The Door of Berrozanas, at one on its sides is preserved a part of the wall with its almenas of pyramidal manner.

To save the Jerte river one builds several bridges, located strategically to give access from the various sectors to the urban centre. The Bridge of San Lázaro is oldest that the city, it dates from century XV. To approach us with places as beautiful as the Valley or Vera, we will have to even cross the called new Bridge, while having more than five hundred years. Have in its central part a blazing Gothic house of style, work of German Rodrigo. A philosopher's stone of engineering is the Aqueduct, built in century XVI, probably by Juan de Flanders. By the means of him one led water since the Mountains of Cabezabellosa and El Torno, while supplying with the part higher than the city.
