Emblem of Merida's legacy.
The theatre was built in order to provide the spectators with the best acoustic resonance.
It can seat up to 3,000 people. It was built on the hill of San Albín, whose inclination favours the acoustics of the building. Emperor Agripa ordered it to be built in the year 16 or 15 BC. The stage has three access doors and a podium over two and a half metres high.
Type of monument: Theatre.
Period: Romanization (BC).
Style: Classical-roman.
