The museum, situated near the Roman theatre and amphitheatre, was inaugurated in 1986.
The National Roman Art Museum of Mérida, work of the prestigious architect, Rafael Moneo, was inaugurated in September, 1986. Inside, it houses pieces from the Roman civilisation: from the theatre, the Roman house, funeral tablets, ceramics, glass and coins, among other things. It contains sculptures, paintings and mosaics, as well as excavations that have been carried out in the lower part of the museum itself.

Timetables: From 15 February to 30 November, Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-2pm and 4-9pm. From 1 December to 14 February, 10am-2pm and 4-6pm. Sundays and public holidays, 10am-2pm.
Closed: Mondays, 1 and 6 January, 1 May and 24, 25 and 31 December.

General admission: €2.40
Reduced admission price: €1.20 (Youth Card holders and EU students, with ID).
Free admission: retirees, unemployed and under 18 EU residents, with ID; Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings, 12 October and 8 December.
