Galisteo is a historical city of Cáceres, located at the south-west of Plasencia, precisely between the junction of the rivers Jerte and Alagón.
Again as in so much of villages of the geography of Extremadura appear, although camouflaged, the Moslem trace of our culture. Galisteo is a sample of this trace.
For Galisteo it is necessary to come to see its wall. The wall surrounds all the commune of Galisteo. Its origin almohade is built at the beginning of century XIII, in defence against the Christians during the conquest. It gives to Galisteo the aspect of irreducible fortress. It was subsequently rebuilt more than one once. It measures some ten meters of halt by two and to half the broad one. It is made with rolls of the river, which makes it so original that it results being one from most beautiful the walls of all Spain. By deserving the Artistic Historical overall declaration.
To see only the wall we can initially know that it was built in an urgent way, by their late time, constructions almohades are generally proceeding at century XIII and secondly, by the absence of turn's flanking, appear that they had speed. This wall is undoubtedly the emblem and the symbol of Galisteo.
Preserve three of its entrance doors at the city. It is the Door of City, built with sketch in curve, with an aim of not making it visible, thus facilitating its defence. It is formed two by announced arcs, with a shield in the higher part. Between the arcs a space in which was the rake or the door of defence. In the interior a safe deposit of a half - not with decoration of the rebirth.
In the Eastern part of the wall, one finds the Door of Holy María, formed by brick arc announced on the higher level and in the different inferior arc, it of a half - not, between one and another, the space where it was in its turn the door of defence or I rake up.
And in the southern part of the wall, a more modern door, the Door of the King. Is a simple construction formed in outside by an arc of a half - not of stone size and in the interior another of brick. Between them a safe deposit of a half - gun. All the doors were rebuilt at the time Christian woman, in their assigning Christian names, but the Door of City preserves its Moslem characteristic manner, with the sketch in curve.
Another emblem of Galisteo also of Moslem origin is its "Picota", here how the Tower of the Homage is known, character completely of defence. It acts of the only remainder which is preserved Arab fortress, built before the wall, in the 12ième century.
