One of the characteristics more important than the Community of Extremadura must see with the great number of natural spaces than it has, pride of all its inhabitants. We find the forest Mediterranean, whose flora characterizes in an obvious way these grounds, with much of occasions humanized, transformed pastures, and in others, pastoral and wild, so much in the mountains as in green throats, rivers and zones, which make of Extremadura an authentic natural paradise. The visitor will be able to enjoy these natural spaces, dispersed by all the geography of Extremadura.
Many of these zones, considering their extraordinary importance, so much by their flora as by their fauna were declared Spaces Natural Protected or Natural reserves. In Extremadura there are two Natural reserves, the Natural reserve of Monfragüe and that of Cornalvo. The Natural reserve of Monfragüe, located in the province of Cáceres, between Plasencia and Trujillo, is little of reduced authentic Mediterranean forest. Its forests, sometimes adehesados thick, which are accompanied by will jaras and madroños, between other species, are the refuge of stags, jabalíes, jinetas. Moreover, in impressive the stones of quartz live species protected like the vulture leonado, the alimoche, the real eagle, etc.
In the province of Badajoz, very near at Mérida one places the Natural reserve of Cornalvo, this natural space is very particular to be located in the adjacencies of the splendid prisoner built by the Romans for the water provisioning at Mérida. The Dam Cornalvo is surrounded mainly by typically Mediterranean vegetation, with zones clareadas of pastures, of which the grazing grounds are used as food with a livestock of abundant breeding. We find also vast grounds of culture.
In the north of the province of Cáceres it is unforgettable necessary where crystalline water their throats dissimulated between the exuberant vegetation transports us to paradises moved away, this one is the case of the Throat of Hell, in full Valley of Jerte (Cáceres). Declared Natural Reserve in 1994, represents a habitat mountain, shores and throats. One observes varied vegetation here; in the weaker part they dominate of the alders and ashes, while passing by rebollos and sweep, until what is a piorno’s top. In its own water abounds the trout, fish very appreciated by which they practise the sport of fishing, and in the tops we will be able to find species like the goat mountains, the vulture leonado, the real eagle, otters, the cat mountains, etc. In the most Western part that the province of Cáceres, one nails the Mountain of Cat, the mountains whose grow oaks, chestnut trees, oaks S-cork, oaks and prevail the pines of repopulation. It was recognized by ADENEX in 1.988 like Biological Reserve because its geographical situation allows the distribution of the black vulture by Portugal and Castilla and Leon.
Another landscape, quite different, but not for that less attractive for the visitor are the sectors of Siberia and the Serenade, where prevail of great water masses which constitute the stopping Cíjara, Orellana, García Seule and one of those larger than Europe, that of the Serenade, for that these zones are qualified like the owners of the greatest number of kilometres of coasts sugar refineries of Extremadura. One of the natural spaces most attractive by its vegetation exhuberante is the Reserve Cíjara del National, space which is wide environment Al stopping of this name. Its abundant raised gives refuge to a rich fauna made up mainly by species of smaller and larger hunting. In addition, the dam Orellana is of great importance being the important reserve of water birds, where one can observe ánades real, of the cranes, the gulls, etc, and moreover where one can practise a great number of water sports, or sporting fishing. Another sector of great importance for the birds that is called "International Cut", which corresponds with the Dam Cedillo (Cut) and its affluent Salor and Erjas. In the environment prevail of the quartzite and the typical forest and the Mediterranean heather, and the species like, the black vulture, alimoche, black stork, etc.
