The Community of Extremadura has an extent list of artesian work. Much of them survived, in spite of the difficulties which they found on the way, but others succumbed, unfortunately, with the strong influences of the modern society, which made favourable the loss of a part of the culture that our area accumulated throughout the years.

In the past the products which were manufactured had an eminently practical goal, (utensils for the kitchen, the house, the field, etc), however, today is sought the production of decorative objects. Work of the craftsmen of the various sectors, has excellent quality in common their products, characteristic which granted a great fame and a prestige to them. In many localities we can find excellent craftsmen who expose and sell their work, in its residences, small stores or on the markets.

One of the artesian activities most important in our area is the pottery, it acts of one of work with more a number of workshops in the area (the majority in the province of Badajoz), and which is also noticed by its great production, in comparison with other activities. Between the zones which deserve special mention by the development of this activity we can underline the Mud Ground sector, being Salvatierra of Mud the people par excellence potter (account with 12 workshops), where occur a large variety of red mud parts. Castuera, celebrates by their tinajas, Villanueva of the Serenade, etc, and in the province of Cáceres is noticed "Stream of Light", which incorporated the technique of glass in traditional red ceramics, Torrejoncillo (tinajas) and Ceclavín, where the ceramics carried out with a very special technique called "enchinada occurs".

As for the craft industry of metal it is necessary to underline the boiler making of Guadalupe and Allie, where occur made famous of work out of copper and brass, with which one carries out brazier, distillers, and kettles, very known since the last times. The forging is also of excellent quality in much of populations of the sectors of Ibores and Villuercas.

Another traditional activity, carried on mainly by women, was the embroideries. Embroideries of any type decorated and continuous to decorate a vast fabric range, which forms part of the "domestic ajuar", like sheets, rags, curtains, etc. Work of embroideries we find in many points of the area since Villafranca Mud, Riverside of Ash, Zafra, until Guadalupe, where the beautiful lagarterano style is worked. In addition to the embroidery, the knitting and fitments of spindles are work craftsmen of great tradition in our grounds. Is necessary to underline fitments of spindles, very hard technique, in which intervene wire and of large wood needles, of which the extraordinarily complicated task consists to increase its number of it. The locality cacereña of Acebo is very known by this activity.

The craft industry of the skin and leather are important especially in the province of Cáceres. Between the objects which one works it is advisable to quote, purses, belts, and including articles drives out and horsemanship. Between the localities which they bring out in this type of work of great quality one finds Alcántara, Plasencia, Hervás, Malpartida de Plasencia, Moraleja, etc.

Basket making, artesian activity very old, has very weak representation in this Community, being Baths of Montemayor one of the most representative localities of this type of work.
