THE CARNIVAL OF BADAJOZ, EXTREMADURA.

The Carnival of Badajoz is compared in importance with the one of Cadiz or Tenerife.

The Carnival of Badajoz goes up centuries behind, concretely about 1815. Although its festival suffered the tops and low throughout times, while managing to be interdict during the dictatorship, resurge with a great force in 1980. Starting from this date the Carnival went each year has more, while changing, currently, in the more important festivity of Badajoz, and in one of the three best carnivals of Spain.

The beginning of these festivities begins the day of the Candles with two very significant acts: "Cremation of Marimanta" and the "Tamborada". The first represents "Welcome of the New Carnival"; finished this one makes place "in Tamborada", moment when the comparsas present its compositions carried out with percussion instruments.

The Carnival itself begins Friday, 45 days before Sunday of Ramos. The advertiser of the festivities it is the blow of gun of exit. This same day takes place the contest of murgas in the Theatre López d' Ayala.

During the successive days this city born on board Guadiana is filled colour, of joy and enthusiasm. The inhabitants actively take to share groups of murgas, comparsas or choruses in this traditional festivity.

The height of the festivities is reached Sunday. While the groups fall from carnival ravel by the principal streets of this city. Music, dance and large coloured are authorized in them. Thousands of visitors approach in Badajoz to consider this beautiful spectacle. One should not lose the advisability of seeing ravelling it by the vastest streets, like the Avenue San Marine, Europe or the Round of the Pillar.

The Burial of Sardine supposes the end of the festivity. In the popular district of San Roque one represents the death of Charnel gift. The festivity and the joy make place with the reflexion of the "cuaresma".
